HOW WE HAVE HELPED OUR COMMUNITY
Here are some examples of how the different Alice Combes Trusts have been able to help our community.
SUPPORTING TALENT
Joanna Croucher
Thanks to Alice Combes Trusts I have been able to commit to a two year programme of study at Star Cast Performing Arts School in Salisbury. I have a love and a passion for performing and this is where I want to develop my future studies and my career and with Alice Combes behind me I now have a better chance of achieving my dream.
SUPPORTING APPRENTICES
Reuben James
Reuben has started his three year apprenticeship as a motor vehicle mechanic at FJ Chalke in Mere and Alice Combes Trusts have supported him to purchase the necessary tools.
Reuben has always been fascinated by cars and the film, The Fast & Furious, got him into thinking how the cars worked.
He researched and wrote to the local garages and F J Chalke reponded.
HELP WITH TRAVEL EXPENSES
Lyra Medlock
Running for England
We supported Lyra with transport costs to attend selection races across the UK in the hope of being picked to run for England in her chosen sport of Orienteering.
Lyra won all four of her selection races and went on to represent England in March 2020
COVID-19 EMERGENCY FUND
With
Lord Arundell of Wardour Charitable Trust
The challenges presented by Covid-19 are significant particularly for those in our community who were self employed or furloughed on reduced income or who have lost their jobs due to the lockdown. The Trust has teamed up with the Lord Arundell of Wardour Charitable Trust to provide an emergency fund to provide help to those who have been directly impacted by Covid-19.
SUPPORTING CREATIVE PROJECTS
Laura Grace Simpkins
Thanks to my grant from the Alice Combes Trust I have been able to purchase books and attend a course which have been essential to my ongoing creative writing projects. Already I have had work published on a number of different websites and even broadcast on BBC Radio. I am now working on the proposal for my first book, a memoir about mental health and the environment, set in Tisbury.
SUPPORTING LOCAL PARENTS
St Johns Primary School Tisbury
We have provided funding to St Johns' School to help them reduce the cost of coach transport for outings and residential.
SUPPORTING LOCAL PARENTS
Tisbury Pre School
We have supported local parents with the cost of preschool and supported an outing by the school to Cholderton Charlies Farm.
SUPPORTING COMMUNITY ORGANISATIONS
Tisbury Miracle Makers
We supported this amazing group of locals in our community who set about making masks and scrubs for front line workers in our local hospitals, clinics, GP surgery and in our local care homes.
Our grant of £300 was spent on materials to support the task and in paying the fuels costs for the organisers to distribute the masks and scrubs across the area.
SUPPORTING COMMUNITY ORGANISATIONS
Tisbury Writing Competition
We have supported the competition in 2020 and 2021 by providing the prizes for the wonderful winners and their imaginative writing.
SUPPORTING COMMUNITY ORGANISATIONS
Tisbury Bowls Club
The Alice Comes Newtown Trust provided a grant of £750 to the club to support the refurbishment of the clubhouse in preparation for the 2022 season and introduction of croquet at the club.
